The course

The course is aimed at anybody wishing to train as a massage therapist. This massage therapy training course is the first step on the ladder to a career in complementary therapy. It is also suitable for people interested in a massage therapy course for their own use. Massage therapy is a very popular therapy enjoyed by a wide range of people. The course covers holistic massage, relaxation massage and introductory sports massage. The massage is based on Swedish massage techniques.

The Qualification

The ITEC Diploma in Holistic Massage is the most widely recognised qualification for massage therapists in Ireland and the UK. The International Therapy Examination Council (ITEC) is based in London and is the largest international examination board offering a variety of vocational qualifications in beauty, complementary and sports therapy. ITEC qualifications are on the National Qualification Framework and are recognised nationally and internationally.

The Syllabus

The course covers all aspects relevant in the training of professional massage therapists. The syllabus is very practical with sixty per cent of the class time devoted to massage techniques. Students will learn a full range of massage movements enabling them to give holistic massage, relaxation treatments and sports massages.

The course syllabus includes:

  • History of Massage
  • Preparation / Equipment for Massage
  • Strokes of Massage (effleurage, petrissage, tapotment, friction and vibration)
  • Sequence of Strokes (full body, facial, head and foot massage)
  • Effects and Benefits of Massage
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Pathologes associated with each system
  • Care of the therapist - posture
  • Care of the client - record keeping, confidentiality, professionalism
  • Business awareness - how to establish & promote your massage business

Graduates work in a variety of settings such as spas, leisure centres, health centres, sports clubs, hotels and from home. The course is now undertaken by many people for personal as well as professional development.

TimeTable

The course is part-time and takes place on Wednesday nights for three hours from 7-10pm. The course starts on Wednesday 5 October 2011 and ends with examinations in May 2012.

The Venue

The course will take place in Palmerstown Sports Complex, Kennelsfort Road, Palmerstown, Dublin 20. This is a new state of the art complex just minutes from the Liffey Valley roundabout on the M50. It is a central venue within 30 minutes of most parts of Dublin. It has private parking on site.

Course Fees

The course fee is €1800. This includes tuition, exam fees and course books. There is a facility to pay this fee in installments. There is a reduction of €50 to students who pay the full course fee before the commencement of the course.
